![]() Sometimes standard training or development programmes are not the answer to increased personal performance. The individual may need time, space and privacy to explore the issues that concern them with someone who will support and challenge their thinking and behaviour. I begin with aligning myself to the client's agenda and learning objective, and seeing the world - to the best of my abilities - through their eyes. I look to see how I am similar to them, and how I differ. I challenge them to see the situation differently, and support them in trying different strategies to help them towards their objective. I help the client see how they have contributed to the problem, and to manage the discomfort of this without minimising it. At all times I look to see how I may learn from them; that way we are both in a potentially uncomfortable and fruitful learning position. My therapeutic training underpins and informs all my work. Example assignments include coaching a Senior Global Partner at PricewaterhouseCoopers, and at Newburn IT. I have also worked, sometimes internationally, with Oracle, British Telecom, Unipart and several Government Departments. I am currently coaching a Senior NHS Consultant. I also tutor at Cranfield Business School occasionally. As well as using other methods of coaching, I am trained in the Centaur Model. This is a simple, pragmatic yet profound model of personality development that provides self-understanding, encourages the development of personal potential and facilitates genuine and practical insight into others. Centaur is based on body-mind psychology, but specially adapted for work with management populations. Its starting point is that every individual is a mass of positive potential – but that this potential is blocked in various ways which can be easily described. This basic insight is already tremendously exciting and affirming for people; that there is more to them than they already knew – and it is good. Qualifications I am a Chartered Member of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (see www.cipd.co.uk), the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy and I am a UKCP registered psychotherapist. |
